The Angkor Wat Sunset Tour is one of our most popular tours. It’s perfect for visitors who don’t want to get up early for the sunrise.
You’ll spend a whole day visiting the temples. After breakfast, you’ll be picked up and taken to the Angkor Park where you’ll start the tour with Angkor Wat and Ta Prohm first on the agenda.
For lunch, we’ll stop at a local restaurant in the Angkor Park. You’ll then continue the tour in the afternoon and explore the temples inside the Ancient city of Angkor Thom. You then have the option to see the sunset at either the Angkor Thom South Gate or Phnom Bakheng.

Tour Description
The tour starts after breakfast around 9 o’clock in the morning. We’ll head straight over to the Angkor Ticket Office to pick up your tickets. We’ll then head directly to Ta Prohm and arrive before the large crowds get there. Here, you’ll see the famous “Tomb Raider” temple in all its glory. When we’ve finished exploring Ta Prohm, we’ll continue our drive over to Angkor Wat.
We’ll then enter the vast grounds and explore the temples explaining the history and the story of the bas-reliefs and carvings along the way. After visiting Angkor Wat, we’ll stop for lunch in a local restaurant inside the Angkor Park.
After lunch, we’ll then head over to the ancient city of Angkor Thom. First is the Bayon temple, which is famous for the hundreds of faces which smile down from the towers above. This is one of the most popular temples in Angkor and often referred to as part of the “Big Three” with Ta Prohm and Angkor Wat. After Bayon, we’ll head over to explore the temples nearby the Royal Enclosure.
You’ll see Baphuon, Phimeanakas, Terrace of the Elephants, and the Terrace of the Leper King. We’ll be able to walk around these four temples and terraces before making a short journey to Prasat Suor Prat.
Around 5:00 – 5:30pm, we’ll head over to our spot where we’ll see the sunset. You have the option to either see the sunset at the South Gate of Angkor Thom or the very popular Phnom Bakheng. Many guests prefer the South Gate as it is a lot quieter than the large numbers which congregate at Bakheng Mountain.
Why Book This Tour?
The sunset option is a very popular tour throughout the year. The best days are moderately cloudy without being overcast as it creates a beautiful spectacle as the sun reflects off the clouds surrounding the towers of Angkor.
Unlike the Angkor Wat Sunrise Tour, this tour doesn’t start too early in the morning so it’s perfect for those who prefer to wake a little later in the morning.
Tour Notes
Each person will require a one-day temple pass. The cost of the pass is $37 per person. Read more about the Angkor Wat Pass.
Guests are reminded that there is a strict dress code and guests must cover their shoulders and knees when entering the temples. Read more about the rules for visiting the temples.
If you require transport and not a tour guide, please contact us using the booking form and we’ll be able to provide prices for you.
Other Tours
If you would prefer to finish your tour earlier in the afternoon, we can suggest either the Angkor Wat Small Circuit or Grand Circuit Tours without taking the option of the sunset.
Moreover, if you’re an early riser then you might want to consider the Angkor Wat Sunrise Tour.
